Our August Dog Days Adoption Event is hosted by Parmelee Farm, as always, on the last weekend of the month, August 27th and the 28th. This farm has a rich history and is significant to the town of Killingworth for its community appeal. We're honored to be allowed to work with them to save some shelter dogs, thank you!
The 132-acre Parmelee Farm was purchased by the Town of Killingworth in 2000. It was known at that time as the Bosco Property. The property is centrally located near the center of town, adjacent to Cockaponsett State Forest and the Haddam-Killingworth Middle School. The property was unused until 2007 when use as a community garden was approved. The enthusiasm generated by the gardens prompted more town organizations to take note of the property's potential. Structures on the property include an 18th century farmhouse, a stone barn, pole barn and small storage garage.
